No.37 Tama housing new town (Vol.1)

Tama-new-town (hereinafter Tama NT to be) is a large-scale house development
area in 14 km of east and west which equals Inagi City, Hachioji City,
Machida City mainly in the about 150-m altitude, Tama City situated on
Tama-kyuryo in Tokyo southern part, 2-4 km of north and south. It links
Keio Sagamihara line within about 35 minutes from Shinjuku by using it
and it is the development which supplied a house by the great city with
the great distance new community in Osaka as the new community in great
city Tokyo.
As for the Tokyo area, the high economic growth in the 1960s, Japan spread
urbanization rapidly and a great deal of wage earners flowed in. It accompanied
to that and the house residential land demand increased and with the soaring
of the price of land of the central city, the disordered development (making
a sprawl) progressed in the Tama area which is suburbs. To supply (Showa

The second half of the 1970s

a railroad station) in the area.
Attractive and it becomes the attractiveness of Tama NT and a characteristic.
If not being development by the government offices such as the public corporation
and the prefecture, such development will be difficult.
