No.164 The Tokyo bridewell (Kosuge)

| The Tokyo bridewell is the biggest bridewell (the jail) in the country
of square meters with about 210,000 pieces of area. It is in 1878 that
this place began to be used as the jail and the history is old. It is in
1945 that Kosuge prison became the bridewell of the non-decision 囚 specialty
and "a bridewell" was juxtaposed at "the prison". After
that, Kyuutou Kyoto bridewell ("SUGAMOPURIZUN"=the 現 sunshine
60 site) was abolished in 1970 and changed a name into "the Tokyo
bridewell" from "Kosuge bridewell". As for the Tokyo bridewell, the facilities are old and consideration of the human rights to non-decision 囚 is said to be the facilities which aren't adequate, and it reconstructs at present and construction is done. The rebuild construction of the Tokyo bridewell is begun in 1997 and the central management building and the southern accommodating building have been complete with the step in April, 2003 (It says that about 1500 被 inmates moved). It says that 1500 become able to be further accommodated when the northern accommodating building is complete. |
